Well this has been a great journey so far, and I am completely smitten with this craft! Here's some pics of my first attempt - A flamed maple DREAD. The maple back and sides are from eBay as is the sitka top. (Hey I didn't know about our fine sponsors when I bought them!) The fretboard and bridge are Bois D' Rose. Still needs final set up and some hand polishing, but I am pretty pleased. It actually sounds good! Warts? Oh yeah baby, it's got its share of 'em. But with every one a valuable lesson learned and applied to the next one! My thanks go out to all of you in this great community of the OLF!

The next one is about three weeks out, and it will be better!

Thanks to everyone here, and particularly Brock and Lance for all the hard work they do providing this great resource!

i didn't find the courage to inlay the headstock on my first so... Love that maple and that headstock, what did you use for bindings?

Thanks for the kind comments. Coming from someone building the quality of the guitars you build that means a lot. Yes - #2 is an EIR and Carpathian Herringbone DREAD. #3 has the back on, and I just finished carving the braces for the top - My first "Zoot" guitar - flamed hondo mahogany and Carpathian DREAD. #4 has the sides bent, and is for a friend - another Zoot guitar, it is an EIR and Carpathian Herringbone DREAD. Hmmm... I'm detecting a trend here. Well I play bluegrass and hang out with bluegrass guitar players, so....

Thanks man! The neck is hondo mahogany I had my local hardwood guy order for me. I bought a $350 plank from him and got enough material for around 35 necks - a good deal, although I had to create my own blanks of course. It is a straight bolt-on butt joint, stained with some walnut gel stain and finished with true oil. The next neck gets a mortise and tenon...
